I’m originally from a small valley town nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee. I went to school a few hours up the road and earned my bachelor’s in studio art with a concentration in painting and a minor in museum studies. As soon as I finished school, I moved to Alaska. And I’ve been coming and going ever since.
I primarily work in drawing mediums now that I travel frequently. I mostly use charcoals and pastels, though I’ve recently fallen for PanPastel as I’ve found their application mimics the motions of painting.
I admire dramatic lighting and high contrast. Vivid colors or none at all. Enough emotion to feel, but with little explanation as to why. And I believe none of it should matter without the role of the viewer. My goal is to facilitate a place of empathy. I aim to leave just enough room for the viewer to project, insert, be surrounded by, and be consumed with the spaces I’ve created for them to sit and feel. A brief reminder of sentience. A moment of equanimity.
